It usually doesn’t take long before someone figures out what a new release is missing — and that usually means to add more power. Turbosmart is no exception to that rule, and brought out their EcoBoost recirculating blow-off valve for the 2015 Mustang that takes advantage of the existing boost by providing a better seal with a lightweight reactive piston.
One of the inherent problems with the factory valves is that they aren’t sealed properly, as Turbosmart’s Kirstin Stone explains. The factory component is plastic and suffers because it doesn’t meet up to its potential. The Turbosmart valve uses a billet aluminum body with their reactive piston to flow much more than the factory valve.
While Turbosmart doesn’t promise more boost, they do say that with a better seal their valve will capitalize on existing boost that is lost with the factory unit. Their EcoBoost valves have a dual port design that will recirculate to keep the MAP numbers happier.
This new part for the EcoBoost Mustang is still in final development with a release to come in 2015. The PRI Show is, therefore, the first time the public has seen or heard about it.
They also showed us one of their best sellers for the year, the recirculating blow-off valve for the Ford Focus ST. The valve works much in the same manner as the Mustang valve, and has been surprising popular.
The F150 valve is a mechanical replacement for the factory electronic valve that Ford introduced in mid-2013. Being mechanically operated, it will provide significantly better flow for more boost. The valves will include the adapter and the electronics to control the valve, and for those who are concerned with the ECU going into limp mode because of what might appear to the ECU as a bad sensor.
