PRI 2014: VMP Tuning Rolls Out Gen II Supercharger For 5.0 and GT500

A few months ago, VMP Tuning released their all new Gen II supercharger. Still based on the Eaton TVS rotor pack, this supercharger features a completely redesigned housing that VMP head guru, Justin Starkey says allows it to flow 18-percent more air. The addditional airflow translates to 18-percent more horsepower. “this is the highest flowing version of the TVS yet,” says Starkey. We took an in-depth look at the Gen II system a few months back, and for the full tech deep dive, you can check out the article at this link.

The company had their Gen II systems for ’11-’14 GTs, ’07-’14 GT500s, and 2015 Mustang GTs on display at this year’s PRI show. On a GT500, the Gen II setup can make well over 800 hp, and is a direct replacement for the factory superchargers.

VMP also offers a Gen II kit for the ’11-’14 Mustang GT and BOSS. The system on Rebecca Starkey’s 2011 Mustang GT, which is outfitted with a Ford Racing Aluminator crate engine, a Gen II supercharger, and full compliment of suspension components from BMR, has run a best quarter-mile of 9.15 at over 139 mph. This is a full interior car, with AC, that Rebecca still takes the kids out in on occasion, or even drives to work as a registered nurse.

The Gen II also utilizes VMP’s interchangeable pulley system, using a quick change hub that allows for fast and easy supercharger pulley upgrades or changes. It is also compatible with VMP’s eight-rib conversion system, allowing customers to go to an eight-rib belt for even more reliable performance. “You can run 22-24 psi of boost on a 5.0 with our system, and it doesn’t require you to delete the AC compressor, our eight-rib kit allows users to keep the full interior,” says Starkey. This allows those of us, who don’t like to sweat things out in the summer time, to stay cool, even in stop and go traffic.

For 2015 Mustang owners, Starkey says they only needed to make a few minor tweaks to the Gen II supercharger design in order to accommodate the revised Coyote. The supercharger has no issues clearing the factory hood, and is the exact Gen II housing design, easily capable of 800-900 hp, on ’11-’15 Mustangs. Starkey says 10 psi of boost should yield over 600 hp to the rear tires on the ’15 Mustang.”

The Gen II supercharger for ’11-’15 Mustang GT’s and BOSS 302, as well as ’07-’14 GT500s is available now from VMP Tuning. Look for their 2015 Mustang to make some rounds and turn some heads at NMRA competition and other events in 2015.
