There’s no better place than SEMA to debut one of the trickest, most subtly unique ’66 Mustangs around. Now wait, I know what you’re saying. “Man, it’s yet another Mustang. Like, what haven’t we seen with a fastback Mustang?” It’s not about breaking new ground or reinventing the wheel here, it’s all in the execution. Parked in the dead center of the Flowmaster booth was the Ring Brothers’ latest muscle car creation.
Titled “Bailout,” this fastback ’66 sits low to the ground with big rolling stock at each corner signifying that this machine is more race ready than street-driven. But driven nonetheless. In fact, both Mike and Jim Ring reiterated Bailout’s intention to be driven, particularly at this past Optima Street Challenge. Not just another pretty face, Bailout is a functioning, roadworthy vehicle.
Slathered in “Stimulus Blue,” this pony car was a whirlwind of project, hammering out the sheet metal and buttoning up the project in less than four months! The Ring Brothers had a Keith Craft 351 small block built pumping out 602 horsepower. Backing the SBF is a Tremec 6-speed manual. Tucked up beneath the belly pan is a pair of Super 44 Flowmaster mufflers running into polished tips that run flush out of the lower quarters.
All part of Bailout’s intended design is functionality and beauty. The strut tower braces are both stout and aesthetically pleasing. Even the wrapped coolant inlet is tastefully done. There simply seems to be no square inch of this Mustang that hasn’t been meticulously detailed and customized.
At the Flowmaster booth, there was NO time in which the Ring Brothers’ creation was not swarmed by on-lookers. Inside, Bailout’s cabin is just as beautiful as its external skin, with an intricate road course cage, high-backed racing seats, and safety equipment. Toggle switches and analog gauges give the Mustang an aircraft kind of feel with the detailed floor pedal arrangement looking like they belonged at the controls of a helicopter rather than a muscle car.
There’s a lot more details to mull over, but its best to observe them yourself. Make sure to scroll through our gallery below.
