There aren’t too many things Fords and Chryslers have in common, but one bit of engine technology they both share is variable cam timing. The cam timing can add and remove as much as 40 degrees of cam timing to maximize horsepower and low end torque. This is like having a camshaft with dynamic duration.
The only real problem with the variable valve timing is that it’s designed to work with the stock camshafts only. Adding a cam with different duration and lifts can cause piston to valve clearance problems. COMP Cams has recently added their HEMI limiter and lock kits so enthusiasts can now install aftermarket camshafts in their ride.
Like we said, taking advantage of the variable cam technology is a plus, but it must be limited. The limiters are matched to a wide array of COMP’s custom camshafts, and for those that want to go really wild with their setup, a full lock out kit is available as well.
COMP Cam’s HEMI Limiters and Phasers
• Available for 5.7, 6.1, and 6.4L applications
• No springs required design maintains pistons to valve clearance
• Limits the phasing range to 14 degrees to safely allow up to .619″ lift cams
