Fiberglass and factory musclecars used to be worlds apart back in the good ole days, but times have changed. Owners looking to give their ride the pro-touring treatment are all about saving weight and improving driving feel, and to that end, Downs Custom Performance Automotive brought along a swell new product to entice fans of the Mopar realm.
As you might have guessed, the new product is a fiberglass body available for the 1970 Plymouth Cuda, one of the most popular and sought-after musclecars in existence. Speaking with public relations and marketing representative Elise Parham, we were able to get the full scoop behind this unit and its finer features.
“What we have here is the first available fiberglass body on the market,” said Parham. “We offer it in a lot of options, and the body comes fully assembled, not as a kit.” Features like billet hinges, power windows, Dynamat sound damping materials and more make this unit a viable choice for restoration projects.
To accommodate buyers with a set of wheels already picked out or on their minds, Downs will manufacture tubbed versions that fit 12, 15, and 17-inch rims. “We went the extra mile on this body, ensuring that it would have fit and finish standards that align with Chrysler,” said Parham. She pointed us to the installed windshield in the body, which sat flush and pristine.
Custom touches to the body include the hood and grille, giving the looks department a lean, aggressive enhancement. And for customers with more performance-minded needs and concerns, Parham confirmed that the body can be ordered in race-weight fiberglass or carbon fiber as well. “And as far as priming and painting goes, we’ll give them the choice of having it in DuraTec primer, black gel coat, or done in a custom paint if they so choose,” said Parham.
Meshing the timeless looks of the Cuda with the building technology of today is the key behind Downs’ cool new product, and we can’t wait to see what comes next. Find out more about the company with the provided contact information below.
