When your primary component is steering, then doing it right and making it better go hand in hand. Simple rebuilt steering gears are available from every corner of the country, but when you want something better than the average rebuild, Borgeson Universal is one of those companies that strives to make a better steering box.
With conversions from manual to power, and upgrades from 40-year-old technology to a modern steering feel, Borgeson has continually expanded its line of steering boxes to include many classic vehicles from GM, Mopar, and Ford/Mercury.
At SEMA this fall, we asked about new products and the full-size Ford/Mercury cars was one of the newer items on the table for Borgeson. However, it’s not what’s on the outside that makes its steering boxes unique, it’s what’s on the inside. While many shops replace seals and O-rings to complete a rebuild, Borgeson truly remanufactures it’s steering gears, bringing them into the 21st century.
Each steering box is torn down, cleaned thoroughly, and rebuilt to new conditions, then the housing is modified to fit the various vehicles that are on its application list. What you can expect from this process is a firm, modern feel to your steering and to say goodbye to lane wandering.
Older steering boxes have old steering technology that was perfectly fine when everyone else had similar steering systems. But upgrading to the Delphi 600 series boxes improves steering response with a quicker 14:1 ratio over the stock unit. In addition to the quicker ratio, the unit is resplined where necessary to fit your stock pitman arm and a new rag joint will adapt to your steering column for a direct fit and upgraded steering feel that bolts directly to your full-size Ford.
Application of this new box (PN 800128) includes 1965 to 1977 Ford cars, and a new, Saginaw-style power steering pump (PN 800336) with new bracket, pulley, and hardware helps complete the package. Check out the Borgeson Universal website for more information on upgrades and conversions for your vehicle, and steer your way into the 21st century.
