Leveraging improved aerodynamic designs, Precision Turbo & Engine (PTE) introduced a number of new turbos at this year’s SEMA Show, including the highly anticipated Gen II PT6870 model.

“It provides a lot of power for the size of the package,” says Dan Barlog, engineering director at PTE.

Precision calls its design strategy Competition Engineered Aerodynamics (CEA) and is featured on the company’s second-generation models.

“We get greater efficiency with advanced aerodynamics,” says Barlog, while not revealing more intricate details of the design.

The PT6870 features a CNC-machine 2618-forged aluminum compressor sporting a 68mm inducer while the turbine wheel has a 70mm exducer. There are two compressor cover options: ported “S” cover with 4-inch inlet/2.5-inch outlet, and a “H” cover with 4.0-inch inlet/3.0-inch outlet. Turbine housing options include T4 with .68, .81 or .96 AR. The turbo comes standard with air-cooled dual ceramic ball-bearing center housing rotating assembly. MSRP is $2,399.99, and the turbo is rated up to 1,100 horsepower.

PTE also showed off an upgraded PT7685 turbo with 76mm compressor wheel, also developed using the Gen II CEA design strategy, and an 85mm turbine wheel. It’s rated at 1,350 horsepower, up from the 1,250 rating on the previous model.

“We gained 100 horsepower without changing the size of the wheel,” boasts Barlog.

For the OE market, Precision had a direct replacement for the Subaru WRX. It is different than other aftermarket upgrades that try to modify the stock housing to support larger wheels, which can lead to unwanted irregularities in the airflow.

“We designed the housing around the turbine we wanted,” explains Barlog, noting the compressor wheel is 55mm. The turbo is rated at 525 horsepower.
