Most can agree, that 300, 400 or 500 horsepower street toys are fun but what happens when that just isn’t enough to even take on common street cars these days? If you’re anything like me, you formulate a plan to step your build up to the next level and this 1972 Nova owner is doing just that. What was already one heck of a big block (468 C.I.) street car is going above and beyond into Limited Street competition with a whole new setup — just about everything is getting switched out short of the body.

Pulling out the old motor, cutting out the old 10 point roll-cage, ditching the stock hood and trashing the stock sub-frame were the first steps in this Nova’s build. The new bullet for this hotrod is going to be a monstrous 621 cubic inch BBC-based power-plant with a hefty shot of nitrous; preliminary runs will be performed with a 275 shot and once the owner feels confident that the chassis is sorted out it’ll get hosed down with a hefty 400 hit of the sauce. It’s also a possibility that he may even go with a bigger hit in the future. The induction setup on this beast of a motor is a 1400cfm dominator sourced from Roger at
C & S atop a Sniper II intake manifold from
Profiler.

As soon as the 10 point cage was gone they got right into the build working on the 25.5 spec chassis that’ll offer much more safety, as well as making the car legal for the speeds they hope to achieve. While the stock hood would have been cool for the sleeper effect it didn’t offer the room needed for the large intake setup so the choice was made to install a 10” cowl hood from
Feather Carbon. The new sub-frame underneath the car is a point of discussion as it is quite an interesting piece, but still retains factory mounting locations for legality.
The car is currently undergoing more work at the chassis shop getting mini-tubbed as well as the Ford 9” rear set up with some 40 spline gun-drilled axles out back. The suspension wrapped around it will be a custom ladder bar setup. There’s a lot of work to go but the owner is confident that he’ll be on track shortly. With a killer combo like this laid out we’re sure this car will get right into the thick of Limited Street competition.
