I started drag racing primarily because I couldn't ride BMX as fast as other guys, Football season was over my senior year and I was too small to play college ball. It was a way for me to compete and prove I got smarts and show my dad my car wasn't the POS he said it was when I bought it. Aside from street racing, racing at the track kept me out of trouble and met some great people. You don't have to have the fastest car to win.
