News from the pits after Qualifying Round 2

I talked with Boca Raton Florida based Pro Street competitor George Landis after second round qualifying. Despite some clutch issues with the new three disc set up they are still qualified # 4 with a 6.50 @ 222. in his NextGeneration racing Dodge Stratus. On Friday night they thought they hurt Oddy's Perfomance 526 ci Hemi big block due to the clutch issues, which caused the engine to overrev. When they have the AFT three disc cluch dialed in look for Goerge to be on top of the Pro Street field once again. They have also switched to a new tire for 2008, from Goodyear to Mickey Thomson and George is pleased with the decreased 60' the new tires have given. Last year George finished in the number two spot in BMF Racing Heads Pro Street, he also held the mile per hour record at 226. This year Pro Street sees a new sponser on board with Scorpion Performance.

Mike Yedgarian made the long trip from Canada bringing his Procharged 2002 Trans Am. Inclement weather in his home country turned a normally 24 hour trip into 32 hours. He runs a Liberty cluthless 5 speed trans with a RAM racing dual disc clutch and has been 6.90-7.00 range, though this weekend he is having some problems with the engine shutting down 120 feet out and then coming back on. Mike hopes to see this issue resolved for elimination on Sunday.

I talked to Robert Remek to see why he was leaking fuel on his round one qualifying attempt. He said the line he uses for flowing the nitrous system fuel pressure was left loose. Glad to see it wasnt a major issue as he ran a 7.95 @ 174 in a soft hit for round two. Rob and Patty own a consturction company in Boca Raton installing hurricane windows and doors for residential homes. They finished seventh in 2007 points though Robert wont be running the whole NMCA schedule this year as he has two weddings in the family.

Jim Widener tells me they had to sleep in the truck on the way down here in the Advanced AutoParts Parking lot waiting for them to open to purchase an alternator that went bad on the trip. Jim plans to run the full 2008 NMCA season in NPS using BES power and Induction Solutions nitrous. He runs a small for the class 525 CI BBC so is allowed a 40 jet in each fogger nozzle, whereas the 632 combo is limited to a 23 jet.

Jimmy Berry owns the Motive Gear Mustang driven by Corky Markwart in Pro Street here this weekend in Bradenton. He runs a Scotty's Racing Technology 638 CI big block Ford engine with 3 Induction Solutions nitrous kits. Corky leads the points at Sunshine Dragstrips Heads Up Madness series and Jimmy plans to race locally as well as follow the NMCA tour for 2008. He has had the car for two years and since hooking up with Corky, Scotty, and Steve Johnson has had increased success.
