Advanced AWD will soon be used with the Borg-Warner transfer case in the 2009 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. This new InterActive Torque Management transfer case is a compact unit that combines on-demand AWD with an on-demand front-axel disconnect, which supposedly improves fuel economy by disengaging the front axel when its not required. It was built to enhance performance and reduce fuel consumption, something that we all can applaud!
Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), will be improved with the transfer case, while utilizing software that is designed to work in sync with other vehicle components as it switches from rear drive to all wheel drive as needed. This will be replacing Chrysler’s current AWD system, which utilizes a permanent torque split between the front and rear wheel drives.
