Hurst is keeping itself plenty busy these days. Of course there is the Hurst Challenger, which was unveiled at the 2008 SEMA show. Then earlier in the week Hurst announced the limited edition Hurst Pontiac G8, a tribute to the soon-to-be-deceased American sports sedan. Now their latest offering is a bargain-priced Challenger that does away with the white-or-black and gold paint scheme of other Hurst cars.
According to
Motor Trend,
Hurst is calling their new Challenger package the Competition/Plus, after the legendary shifter.
As already noted, the Competition/Plus Challenger does away with Hurst’s standard paint job, and is offered on any factory-color Challenger. The upgrades are modest, but should help with the Challenger’s impressive heft. The Competition/Plus gets a new suspension courtesy of
Eibach, which includes coil-over shocks, springs, and a sway bar. There is also a stainless steel exhaust by
Magnaflow, as well as a
K&N air filter. Hurst threw on a set of their own 20” alloy wheels, as well as the classic white-ball shifter knob on top of a short-throw shifter.
The interior also gets color-matched seat inserts and stitching, and matte black exterior accents round out the package. While not mentioned, there is also clearly a drag car-inspired hood scoop as well.
How much, you ask? Nearly the cost of a new V6 Challenger. Pricing starts at $18,495, (the same price as the base Hurst/HEMI Challenger) a hefty sum now matter how you cut it. Still, it fills the gap between an SRT8 Challenger and the full-on Hurst Challenger, providing solid improvements. No word on whether or not this will be a limited production run, though with barely a 1,000 Challengers sold last month, I don’t imagine the wait list will be too long.
