It all started back in May of 1952 when legendary motorsports figure Carroll Shelby drove in his first road race, at Norman, Oklahoma, holding on to the wheel of a borrowed MG-TC. There he took first place in competition with some other MG’s as well as against some hotter competition from the Jaguar XK 120’s.
According to
this article on Jalopnik, this same MG-TC he raced will now be up for sale this October at the
Barrett-Jackson auction.
The 1949 TC is still in good racing condition to this day, as it is powered by a 1250cc four-cylinder engine tuned for 100 horsepower. Not only is this car a rolling piece of history, but, it is also a nice reminder of a time when the toughest guy ever to go by Carroll spent as much time driving as he did probably suing people!
Considering that Shelby’s GT500 convertible went for a cool $657,000, this one is probably a little out of our league. Anyhow, it is an exciting time when something this special is up for grabs, regardless of the hefty price tag.
