The Extreme Class class was built around the NMCA Super Street Rules of 1996, and has enjoyed tremendous success due to it's limited tire, chassis, and horsepower combination regulations. All three combinations were within shooting distance of each other. That is, the other racers argue, Coble laid down a pair of runs which each contained the numbers 7.96 and 181.

Under the current NMCA rules, the supercharged vehicles are restricted to F1R and X-trim supercharger systems. Both superchargers are capable of about 1,200 hp. And, what of the big blocks? Rumor has it that Coble's 525ci engine made over 1,050 hp naturally aspirated before he hits it with 400+ hp of fogger. Doesn't seem too equal at first glance?

Yet, Even if the power isn't equal, the e.t's seem pretty similar. This of course is due to the big weight the big blocks have to carry. So, less than a tenth apart means parity might not require a complete overhaul. As we know from the NMCA, no rules adjustments will be made during the first three races, so there is some time to debate and (cry)... whine, moan, and come up with a solution.

We can think of three good options/arguments, which we've ranged from smartest to least smartest. Adding weight won't fly because of the NHRA rules governing vehicle weights.

1. Restrict the Big Block Chevy

The rest of the combinations are within close distance of each other. Why mess with them when you only need to pull some power out of the big block Chevy. How do you do this? No earthly idea.

2. Do Nothing

This is one race, and the BB Chevy has not established itself as the dominant combination. Other small block Ford supercharged combinations have already proven they can run into the 7s. What about the small block nitrous guys?

3. Try to make everyone faster by reducing weights

Pull weight off of the other racers and see if they can keepup.
