| Dave Hinzman's Record Drag Radial Run? Breaking a record is one of the best feeling in racing. Dave Hinzman knows exactly what I’m talking about. Hinzman rocketed his ’87 Drag Radial Mustang to a amazing 7.3805 at 196.22 mph. As good as that seems it looks like he will not be able to back up his record setting run.
Milan racetrack was the setting for this record setting event. The drama started after the run when Hinzman was asked by track officials to slow his car down if he wishes to keep running in the DR class at their track. They are claiming that safety rules do not cover the cars going that fast. Now Hinzman must decide to run the car the way it is, set the record and get kicked off the track. Or dial in the car and go for the win and just bank the prize money. The reason is the certification for the car isn’t for going that fast. Track officials told Hinzman that if he doesn’t slow his car down and makes another sub-7.5 pass to back up his record run, they would ban him from the track for one year.
Either way this was an amazing run and congrats to Dave Hinzman and his hard working team. If I was in his shoes I would slow down the car and go for the win, for the money, for the points, and so I could come back and run again. There are plenty of ways to run this car for the record, but I don’t think Hinzman built this car to be a land speed kind of car. It was built to win races, as it should. This one still goes down in my book as a record.
