Outlaw 10.5 is undoubtedly one of the most popular classes in racing, no matter where you go. The extreme horsepower on a ten and a half inch wide tire makes it interesting when it comes to getting down the track. It is a fine balance between the car and the track making it a tuners chess match. There has been many great cars that have graced this class over the years, though we had to select our personal favorites that have made the class what it its today.

Probably my favorite car of all time is the 1966 Chevy II that made its mark at 75-80 Dragway in the late 90’s competing in Outlaw Pro Street. Owned by Gil Mobley and was driven by Richard Sexton or Chuck Ulsch, at different points in its life. Featuring the nitrous power plant from Gene Fulton, it paved the way for huge power on nitrous. The Chevy II held the world record at one time for the fastest nitrous pass in history on 10.5’s.

Another car that came out of the northeast is the one that was built and campaigned by the late Leo Barnaby. Barnaby’s “Gold Dust” Camaro was one that ignited a rivalry with the Mobley crew from Maryland and before we knew it, they were battling it out on a larger stage up and down the east coast. Barnaby was considered an innovator in the chassis business through his work under the “Neverlift Racecraft” name.

Steve Kirk Jr is another racer that has been in it for a long time and has set plenty of milestones in the sport. Known for his wildly painted Camaro, he competed in the south and run with ORSCA. Also venturing to plenty of outlaw events, he was the very first 10.5 car to run 200 mph in the quarter mile.

Fourth on my list is the Mustang of Tim Lynch. Although he has been through a few of them over the years with different paint schemes, the theme he had when he was the first to break the six second barrier is the most memorable in my eyes. The twin turbo machine that is tuned by Steve Petty will most likely be the most prolific 10.5 car to ever be campaigned. It has eclipsed so many records in its time as well as constantly raising the bar for the racers behind him.

Last but not least, the first generation Camaro of Jack Barfield has to make the list. Barfield whom is a popular racer in the south running with ORSCA, has been around the block a few times and with multiple cars and combinations. He has always been the silent killer - as I call him. While most people would overlook him, he would sneak up and take out the best there is to win an event. From nitrous to turbos, he has run them all.
Once again these racers are in on certain order and are based on my general opinion. Not to take anything away from other racers or fans opinions.
