Billy Glidden started the year off by qualifying for the Pro Stock class at the opening NHRA event of the year. Glidden was racing a former Mark Pauwk car that was purchased for Mickey Thompson’s tire testing program. Mickey Thompson is getting into the Pro Stock class tire market. Billy ran into some issues with the horsepower he was using to race with the NHRA.
So the famous black Mustang GT Billy has raced for years made an appearance since the Pro Stock program is on hold. Just because that program is on hold, it does not mean Glidden is just sitting around. Billy fitted the lightweight GTO with 10.5w tires along with one of his small block Ford and five speed combinations he is famous for. The car will fit perfectly into the ADRL Extreme 10.5 class, which is filled with former Pro Stock and Pro Mod cars fitted with the only rule in this class, 10.5w tires. Billy’s 384 inch small block will be out gunned by the 700 to 800 plus cubic inch motors, but with his experience he feels like he will have a chance to compete.
Glidden ran a 4.32 in the eighth mile in Ohio on the second pass. This is the only time he has tested the car for the
ADRL class. Watch for him at the 4th Annual Pizza Hut Summer Drags at Knoll Gas Motorsports Park at U.S. 131 in Martin, Michigan. This is not the first time Billy has put one of his trusty small block Fords in something other then a Ford. He fitted one into Kenny Perry’s (Yes, the PGA golfer) Grand Am that is also raced in the Outlaw 10.5 classes.
