There are many ways to recognize someone for a great accomplishment. For some, a hearty pat on the back is all it takes. Others need for a medal or a monument for recognition. But gear heads definitely have the best tributes. Who wouldn’t want a loud, lean, mean machine as a mobile testament to ones undertakings?
Group Five agrees, and at last years SEMA show they displayed the Sam Posey Challenger, a tribute to a great racer and an important part of MOPAR racing history.

These limited edition tribute cars began life as SRT-8 Challengers but quickly got the one-over at the G5 shop. Based on Group Five’s own G5/SC, the Posey Challenger is equipped with a
Vortech supercharger,
Kooks headers with
T-Phlo cat-back exhaust, and reinforced half-shafts to handle the power. Cosmetic upgrades include a custom front fascia, laser cut aluminum grills, custom wheels, and the G5 spoiler among other things. What sets the Sam Posey challenger apart is the functional side exhaust, a roll cage, 6-point racing harness, and the Psycho Sublime Green paint job and custom #77 Trans Am graphics.
Posey made quite a name for him at many different racing circuits including T/A, F1, and endurance racing challenges like the 24 hours of LeMans where he appeared ten times. He finished in the top 10 at LeMans five times, with a best finish of 3rd place racing for Ferrari in 1971. He also raced during the 1970 Trans Am series, which is among the best racing years in autosports history, the true height of the muscle car wars. Posey was been a sports broadcaster for ABC and was stricken with Parkinson’s disease; therefore, G5 decided to donate $1,000 from every Posey Challenger sold to the Parkinson’s foundation. So you can feel good about yourself as you fly past the competition in this amazing tribute car.
The G5 Sam Posey Challenger will be appearing 2009 LX & Beyond Nationals July 18-19 in Salem, Ohio at Quaker City Raceway.
