GT1000? Out with the screws, in with the snails
EFI roots superchargers are cool and all, but they just don't have the power capability. A few years back when the Ford GT was released, Stage 6 Motorsports in Florida made a 1000 hp twin turbo version. Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) echoed that with a production twin-turbocharged, 1000 hp, GT. Giving it the GT1000 badge.

The blown 5.4L found in the GT was heavily influenced by the R&D developed by the blown 03-04 Cobra 4.6L. The stock Eaton blower shoves a conservative 12.5 pounds of boost into the 5.4. But frankly that much boost on a 4 valve 5.4L is a yawn at 550hp.

Hennessey got smart by tossing out the ol twin screw for two moderately sized Garrett snails. Due to the mid engine design of the GT, a more efficient air to water intercooler was used vs a conventional air to air. 19 pounds of boost is regulated by Tial wastegates to produce 920whp (about 1100 at the crank) or if you want to go "conservative" back it down to 17psi to produce 870whp.

According to the Edmunds article:
"Hennessey didn't have to touch the engine's internals or even remove the heads, but the fuel system has been upgraded to supply gushers of gas, the engine management software is full of fresh algorithms and an upgraded mass air sensor has been installed."

Cut a check for $45,000 to HPE and you can double the horsepower of your Ford GT. Even at 19 pounds of boost HPE will offer a 1 year warrantee. 6.5 more pounds of boost to produce an additional 550 crank horsepower. This should clarify any doubts of turbo vs supercharger on a 5.4

HPE has released an engine upgrade kit that can replicate their very own GT1000. Here are the statistics and parts included.

• Power: 1000+ HP
• 865 lb-ft Torque

Performance:
• 0-60: 2.6 sec.
• 1/4 mile: 10.6 @ 142 mph
• Top Speed: 240+ mph

Includes:
• Twin Garrett Ball Bearing Turbos
• Stainless Steel Turbo Exhaust
• Stainless Steel Turbo Down Pipes
• Billet Throttle Body Upgrade
• Twin Tial Wastegates
• Air to Water Intercooler
• Custom Intake Manifold
• Fuel System Upgrade
• Upgraded Mass Air Sensor
• CV-Shaft Bolt Upgrade
• Custom Tuned Engine Management Software
• Professional Installation
• Chassis Dyno Tuning & Testing
• Road Tuning & Testing

Just incase you couldn't remember, they put it on the exhaust tips too
