We've covered a bunch of the PSCA events in 2007, so we're very familiar with the Pro Street GTO of Clint & Jim Hairston and the Pertronix Racing Crew. This is a new car - only the 6th race and it found the winner's circle at the opener of the West Coast Hot Rod Association race held in Bakersfield last weekend.
Unseasonable warm temperatures (90º +) coupled with tricky track conditions made for a tough weekend on all competitors. Clint Hairston qualified #2 @ 6.613 220.75 MPH behind the John Mihovetz driven Accufab Cougar prompting Jake Hairston, HMR Crew Chief, to say “I couldn’t de-tune the car enough to keep from spinning the tires in every gear. Actually, we dropped a cylinder in the finals and still top fueled the tire at 1/2 track.”
After a competition bye in the first round, Clint used a hole shot to take out the Art Hodges driven Figspeed Stratus in the semifinals 6.82 to a 6.80 setting up a final round confrontation with Mihovetz.
Clint was up to the task leaving first and peddling the car to a hard earned victory with Mihovetz experiencing violent tire shake. “I never saw him until after the finish line,” commented Clint. This makes 4 career wins in Pro Street for the popular driver.
Hairston Racing’s next event will be at The Strip in Las Vegas April 25-27 for the Pacific Street Car Association’s K&N Filters “Las Vegas Nationals”.
