I know it isn't a muscle car or hot rod, but it does have an engine.
Hey guys, I have a 1993 Cadillac Seville STS with the Northstar 4.6L engine.

I have not ever worked on this type of engine before, but I am aware it is one heck of a job. Simply put. She has a bad habit of marking her territory with oil. And I have talked to a few mechanics, and they all say it is a 20+ hour job to fix. Basically they have to lift the engine and replace the oil pan seals at two different levels. My question is. Does anyone have any experience with this engine/car on this issue. Is it really a big job or is it something I could do in the driveway over the weekend with a few beers? Or am I best to go spend the BIG bucks and fix. Now keep in mind, this car is worth more in parts than it is together

Thank you,
Lloyd

Where is the oil pan leak Lloyd? A little RTV Sealant will look ugly but will likely do the job.

It is in several locations. I have not got my big butt under the car yet, but I can see from the spots left on the road after sitting. Because is only happens when sitting, I tend to think it is only the lower pan. I would think that if it were the upper pan I would have oil blowing while driving. What say you?

Hey buddy. You got to get under there and clean it all up. Once you get oil leaking, that crap blows around all over the place. Your leak probably runs down the block and seeks the lowest point, hangs on for a while then drips off onto the pavement. Reading the stain on the pavement might not give you the best indication of where the leak is actually coming from.

Looks like someone is getting the simple green out.

Yeah, I should probably bribe the ASE Certified Mechanic with a cup of coffee or some chiles from New Mexico.

I have to take it easy on him. I don't think his ticker can handle it if I start verbally slapin' him around.

DollaBill,
Don't make me use you like a human scratching post!

Nothing wrong with the ticker. My frustration governor seems to be broken though. Maybe only a matter of time before the whoop ass restrictor fails too.

Get It?

I don't know, the other day you were saying something about getting the shakes, started sweating, and felt your heart palpitate all this over a simple cup of coffee. But I can't fault you for that. Something about 6 scoops of coffee is not for the faint of heart. So if you noticed I brought down the scoops to something manageable for you.
