James Robbins 737-inch Camaro gets it done in Super Street
The Super Street 10.5W class is the fastest and quickest class in the NMCA for stock bodied vehicles. We were at the Route 66 NMCA event, and we decided to do a profile on #1 qualifier James Robbins. Robbins managed to pilot his Chevy Camaro to a 6.915 at 202.82 to take the top slot. While the car's best is a 6.84, he didn't run that quick at Joliet. Since this was such a bad ass clean Camaro, we decided to do a quick feature on it.

Robbins enjoys his wild ride thanks to a massive 737 ci fat block built by AES. AES is one of the premier engine builders in the Chicago area. This engine alone is amazing, but thats not all it has going for it. An extra 600 hp comes from multiple stages of nitrous to make sure that this 737 is a winner. Add to that some CP pistons and CFE cylinder heads, and you have a bullet well north of 1,500 hp. Just perfect for those 10.5W tires.

Not to try and take away from the engine and the Wilson Manifold, but this has to be one of the cleanest looking bodies I've ever seen. This Camaro has all the right things in all the right places.

The cage and chassis was built by Racecraft - and it's fully legal to the low 6-second range.

The whole car weighs around 3,000 lbs. With help from Bob Gillig on the clutch, Robbins was able to able to take the number one qualifier after only having two runs on his current setup!

No Robbin's' nick name isn't Richard

Power meets the road at the huge Hoosier 10.5W tires but not before running though a four speed Lenco. Robbins is one of the few not running an automatic transmission in this class. He believes that the flexibility with the clutch and the ability to dial it in for track conditions can be a key advantage. That is - if they get the clutch right for each run.

With anyone in the class capable of stepping up and taking the win, Robbins is glad they did so much testing. When talking to Robbins before running the last round of qualifying he said “we are going to be playing it by ear” when asked if he would be running the rest of the NMCA races this year. After this weekend I would keep my eyes out for this car to be at the top at every race.

Check out some of the sweet shots below:
