Joey Bridge Makes News Back Home
Starting out as a mail officer doesn’t seem like the usual job for drag racers to come from. But after seeing Joey Bridge race I just might get a job as one for the summer. Bridge shot his Ford Turbo Mustang down the track to be world’s first modular motor on drag radials in the 7 sec range. And the shock waves were heard all the way back to his home in Australia. The news article is posted below or you can check out the link here.

QUEENSLANDER Joey Bridge has followed his dream to establish a drag-racing team in the US.

Two weeks ago, Bridge, who has been based in the US for the past three years, nailed his first win in the NMRA (National Mustang Racers Association) at Milan, Michigan.

It was acknowledgement that after tossing in his job as a mail officer at the Underwood Mail Centre in Brisbane's southside at the end of 2005, his big gamble had finally started to pay dividends.

At the season opener earlier this year in Florida, while debuting his 2004 Ford Mustang kitted out with the same 5.4-litre block Ford V8 as sold in Falcons, Bridge ran the first 180mph (289.68km/h) pass for a Drag Radial car when he clocked a speed of 181.67mph (292.37km/h).

Bridge, 31, who lives in Southaven, Mississippi, has developed his racing team into a business.

"We have turned it into a viable business and we're building other people's cars to help fund our racing," Bridge said.

"No matter how long I spend in America, Australia will always be home. I will be spending Christmas in Brisbane this year, so it will be good to get away from the cold."

In May, Bridge won his class racing in an event called the World Street Challenge.

"We were on 275/60 15-inch radials and ran in the 7.80s (second bracket) four runs in a row to take the win, which was a $5000 pay day," Bridge said.

His success in Michigan was marked by the fact that he beat 2006 and 2007 Drag Radial champion John Kolivas in the final.

"We had been trying to win an event in the NMRA for three years and it finally happened.

"There was a lot of work involved but at the end of the day it was well worth it," Bridge said.
