Why is it Cool?
These crankshafts are core hardened and tempered to reduce stress and optimize tensil strength. The wrist pin is supported by the wide pin-end widths, which reduces the pin flex and associated problems. Counter weights are also placed along with superior journal dimensional tolerance for optimal load reduction and ease of balancing. The connecting rods, which have no ridge between the blades act as a stress riser. The big end housing bore is held to a +/- .000050”- 50 millionths. Proprietary bolts produced by ARP to K1 specifications have asymmetrical threads to equally load each thread when under tension.
