McLeod Transmission Gear Options?

I saw the clip from the SEMA show announcing that McLeod is coming out with a new 5-speed transmission line, and was wondering if anyone knew what gear options they were going to offer for these transmissions?

I have a 66 Mustang Fastback with a Top Loader 4-speed and I was considering installing a Gear Vendors Under/Overdrive axillary transmission unit in order to get an overdrive gear as I felt it would take less modification than something like a TKO-600 transmission. However, since I McLeod has said that one of their new transmissions would be a "direct fit" replacement for a Top Loader that has made me think twice about purchasing the Gear Vendors system as this might be a less expensive alternative if it is a true "direct fit" replacement. The other thing that would influence me would be if they are offering close ratio gear options - especially 1st and 5th gears.

Here is what Red from McLeod has to say.

"The gear ratio’s will be 2.95 first, 1.99 second 1.34 third 1:1 fourth and .063 fifth.
The second is to be 2.66 first, I don’t have the calculations for 2nd but 3, 4 & 5 will be the same.

We will be doing some test fits for the early mustangs but the preliminary design says it will fit.

Thanks for the inquiry,

Red"

Thank you for obtaining this information. Sounds like they will have a close ratio 1st gear offering at this time but not for 5th gear - hopefully that will come later for us road racer types.

I will be looking forward to finding out the additional information on how their test fits go in the early mustangs. Another question I had thought about was concerning the size and length of the input shaft as the Top Loaders had two different sizes the 1 1/16" 10-spline for the small blocks and 1 3/8" for the big blocks. The shaft length would of course effect if the stock type bellhousings could be used or if a special belhousing or adapter/spacer plate would be required.

Thanks again and if you obtain any additional information, I would definitely be interested in it. John
