NMCA KY 08 - Friday & Saturday Coverage
Welcome to the official Friday & Saturday coverage thread coming to straight from the juicy and rainy tower at Beech Bend Raceway. The rain definitely won on Friday at Beech Bend, where the test and tune session was canceled and that pretty much wiped out all of our normally excellent coverage from Friday.

Jeff Garrison, our video dog for the weekend, spent most of the time huddled up for warmth with no jacket in site. Today, there is a 20% chance of rain tomorrow so we should be ready to go first thing in the morning. We'll bring you the action hot and fresh when the track is dried off.

Spiro debuts new Twin Turbo car at NMCA with no Scavo
The biggest news radiating through the pits was Spiro Pappas' new twin-turbo Camaro, which made it's debut as an identical twin turbo clone to Spiro's single turbo 1969.

Expected, but still hard to swallow, was the absence of Nick Scavo, who was a team member and Street Legal Drag Racing legend long slated for the driver's seat. Word around the water cooler was that Pappas and Scavo had a falling out over a month ago and that lead to Scavo no longer holding the wheel. If someone can patch up the leaky relationship, this still could be a team for the ages. At stands, Nick is on the sidelines and there's two '69s with one driver.

Spiro directs as his crew scramble to get their new car into the trailer as the rains swept the area. The NEW ride has the twin 88's peeking ferociously out of the front grille. Spiro will not be competing with the car this weekend, but he will be making test hits. His old car will be entered into the NMCA Super Street class.

Some quick info for the car if you've been living under the bed for the last 3 months:

• 1969 Camaro built by Skinny Kid Race Cars
• 548ci Sonny Leonard hemi-headed Big Block Chevy
• 2,800+ hp
• Twin 88mm Turbos
• 6-second shake down runs

Glidden's 08 debut in NMCA Super Street is happening at Bowling Green, even though the NHRA was scheduled to race at Gateway. According to Billy, his engine supplier did not supply him the engines he was counting on, so his other option was to race his Mustang in NMCA Super Street Street.

With the return of Jim Blair, this is going to make this one of the most wicked NMCA Super Street fields in history.

As reported by Jake Amatisto of Fastest Street Car," another former champion is here for Pro Street action, supercharger racer Tim O’Hare. He’s armed with a brand new ’68 Camaro “Pro Mod” style chassis and although he only has a few test passes with this car, everyone feels that O’Hare will be tough this weekend."

Ohare had been playing in the higher ranks of Pro Mod and many had thought we wouldn't see him again in Street Legal competition. With the addition of Ohare, there were already 15 Pro Street cars on the property last night making for another stellar field.

As expected, NMCA 2007 champion Jim Blair is back with his Procharger-equipped Mustang. We'll be sure to bring you plenty of killer photos of the car in action, now sponsored by Scorpion Performance.

Mark Micke and crew kick back and embrace the rain, pulling out the BBQ and grilling up some steak! When it's raining, a little chow goes a long way.

Mike Yedgarian and Shawn Zubler prep their Super Street Trans Am’s for tech. With about 14 S/S rides on the property, it's going to be a long weekend for some and a short one for others.

Round 1 Qualifying
The racetrack was very green this AM. We've gotten reports that the track is safe, but the starting line rubber took a pounding with all of the rain and it's going to take some time to build up a good base of rubber.

Super Street Test and Tune Hits (in order of fast to slowest)

1. Tony Nesbitt 7.54 @ 142.32 mph
2. Ed Rice 7.96 @ 167.57 mph
3. Mike Yedgarian 8.13 @ 194.66 mph
4. Sandro Sementilli 8.25 @ 131.75 mph
5. Ray Sanchez 11.15 @ 89.62 mph
6. Matt Bell 14.08 @ 72.55 mph
7. Ron Lumus 12.08 @ 76.12 mph
8. Gino Cavalieri 19.21 @ 74.63 mph
9. Bill Glidden 21.97 @ 64.98 mph

This is the debut for Ron Lummus's twin turbocharged Mustang in NMCA Super Street competition. Lummus is a multi-time Sport Compact champion and is racing for Garrett.

We've got round 1 Qualifying coming after a long time spent drying the track.

Pro Street Round 1:

Position Car # Driver Name ET MPH
1 1968 Eddie Jump 6.358 224.02
2 1967 Mark Micke 6.639 190.89
3 1969 Noel Felton 6.954 179.42
4 4 Ryan Hargett 7.822 120.19
5 1560 Jeff Lutz 7.889 165.44
6 1722 Tim O'Hare 8.816 109.51
7 1003 Tony Williams 20.891 43.49

Tony Williams aborted his run, but his car is as sick as ever.

Kemp Watch Continues

In what has been become our monthly "Kemp Watch" area, we guess just how nasty fast Kemp's small block Nova is. We're doing that because Kemp is lifting on every single pass - either to save his valve springs of his 10,000 rpm small block or to torment every single other racer.

Checking out the incrementals above and compare them to Kemp's 8.55 lifting pass from Bradenton's opener with better conditions.

60': 1.246
1/8: 5.413
1/8 Mph: 127.600
1/4: 8.559
1/4 mph: 143.76

Round 1 Qualifying is rolling in Bowling Green after a very long and trying day for the staff and competitors. Between the weather, oil downs, and the challenging race track, it's not been an easy one.

Car Craft Street Race Q1

John Macaluso just made a big statement with a 8.90 at 153.72 mph, putting himself all alone in the top position in the class. Mike Fratena also ran great mph, but spun with a 1.60 60-foot and ran in the 9.20s.

1. John Macaluso 8.906 @ 153.72
2. Brian Edwards 9.23 @ 148.58
3. Michael Fratena 9.27 @ 152.55
4. Brad Schehr 9.29 @ 144.13
5. Eric Kenward 9.35 @ 144.10
6. Heath Shemwell 9.66 @ 146.35
7. Bryan Lafollette 9.805 @ 140.66
8. Stephen Carroll 11.76 @ 113.09
9. Tim Hendricks 15.09 @ 73.06
