Welcome To Milan!

Mother Nature was kind enough to give the track a good cleaning last night, but the track workers here at Milan Dragway are now hard at work drying the track. The weather report for today predicted some thunder storms, but they are promising sunshine for the rest of the weekend.

The pits have mostly been quite as the teams have been hiding from the rain, but the faint sound of engines firing have begun to echo throughout the trailers.

A test and tune session is scheduled to start at 3 PM local time with the first round of qualifying happening at 7 PM.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Early Pit Report

As mentioned before, all the teams are starting to come out of hiding bringing their cars with them.

Don Bowles is here along with the entire ROUSH crew.

The weekend hasn't really even started and we already found someone with the transmission out. Frank Mewshaw was trying some new things at a test session earlier this week and ended up twisting an input shaft. "No big deal, we got plenty of time," said Mewshaw. He has the new part with him and given the weather right now, is in no hurry to plug it in the car.

The clouds just broke the track worker's hearts. They just about had the track dry, and the clouds just opened up again.

Looks like testing is going to be pushed back even more.

When we said we would be bringing you lighting fast editorial, this isn't exactly what we had in mind.

Either way, the NMCA officials have decided to call the event for today.

Things will start back up tomorrow once this rain storm has time to clear out. At this time they still plan to have a round of test and tune before the first round of qualifying.

So check back tomorrow for some updates of cars actually running down the track!

Welcome To Saturday

The sky is still gray and gloomy, but the track is dry and we are ready to starting running cars down the track! They just called the first set of cars to the lanes for their test run. Each competitor will get one test hit before we get into qualifying.

Even though it still isn't perfect outside, it still looks WAY better than yesterday.

Thanks again to SCT for helping us bring you this event coverage. Check them out at www.sctflash.com.

Test & Tune Notes

Testing is underway here in Milan, check out a few of the runs from the heads-up classes.

Ben Mens had good run in his Pro Stock Mustang. The car left good and ended the run with a 8.624 @ 155.61 MPH.

Alan Von Ahnen pocketed a 10.101 @ 131.56 for his test run. With the air being as cool as it is, look for him to pick it up a little in the first round of qualifying.

The track seems to be holding up after all the rain we’ve had here. Michael DeMayo ran a clean 8.631 @ 157.95

Bob Kurgan’s car was off a little bit. The car felt hard, but didn’t seem like it was pulling on the top end like we’ve it do before. The time slip confirmed this as he finished with a 8.453 @ 169.93.

Q1 Highlights

Alan Von Ahnen from Pennsville, NJ takes round one of qualifying in Mean Street with a 10.112 @ 131.18 MPH.

Jessie Coulter and his 3rd gen Camaro qualified number one in Street Radial. Coulter is ahead of the rest of the field by almost a tenth and he did it all in the first 300 feet. His final time was a 9.085 @ 150.96 over Tim Hendricks’ 9.176 @ 155.65.

In Pro Stock, Mike Demayo is currently sitting on top of things after running an 8.552 @ 157.98. Skip Baskin is in a close second after he ran a 8.570 @ 155.72.

The right lane seems to be the place to be, as the number one qualifier comes from that lane again this time in the Xtreme Street as Chris Singleton runs a 8.046 @ 173.61. Right behind him is Steve Cagle and his 8.131 @ 167.21 MPH.

Jim Blair’s car shuck the tires hard as he was forced to shut it down just after the 60 foot cone. Meanwhile in the other lane, Jim Robbins spanked the field with a 6.776 @ 209.13 MPH. He takes over the number one qualifyer spot knocking Frank Mewshaw and his 7.117 @ 204.56.

Fresh off of the win at zMax, Troy Coughlin sits number one right now in Pro Street. He ran a 6.359 @ 221.59 over Bob Vorderer’s 6.420 @ 218.38 MPH. Chris Rini was another one of the big guns to suffer massive tire shake as he too shut it down early coasting to a 15+ second run.
