NMCA Superbowl 08 Saturday Coverage
It has been raining since I got up at 6:45am this morning. It is now 9:40am and it is still lightly raining. It should stop here within the next half hour. There will not be a third round of qualifying today as we will move right into eliminations once the water is dry from the track

Looking at the updated time sheets for today, Joe Bucaro does not show as top qualifier in Nostalgia Pro Street anymore. The 7.42 pass did not pass tech due to his front grill being blocked off and is not on the qualifying sheet for today. Other drivers that were hit with DQs were Dave Beeson, Mitch Mika, Tim Oros and Tom Luther. The drivers will be put on today's eliminations at the bottom of the latter

Dave Beeson was DQed for illegal nitrous jets and has since left.

Another update. We are still drying the track here. It looks like it has stopped raining, for now. The plan now is to go as scheduled with our final round of qualifying. It is 11:20am and they are still drying the track. So at this point we are a little over two hours behind schedule.

Racers have been unloading their trailers slowly. A few people are working on their cars but most are taking it easy as it will be a while longer before heads up cars will be reporting to the lanes.

I don't know if I was blind yesterday or Pete Richart showed up last night. Pete has only ran Bowling Green this year. Pete had a bad crash in Georgia last year where his car pitched to the right and the car rolled on it's roof.

Walking through the pits I spotted a Ford CUV that I didn't know existed. Is it the Ford Xb?

Another update on our schedule.

Qualifying Round 3 will be ran in this order:

True Street Time Trial #3
Super Street
Super Street Outlaw
Pro Outlaw 10.5
Pro Street

These will be the only classes ran for qualifying. After we will go right into eliminations with Truck and Lightning.

More notes from the pits as people come out of their holes

Pete Richart has been busy and since he is in the car sales business, he has suffered like everyone else. He just got the car out and wiped down before heading to tech.

Bob Kurgan sits a thousandth off the lead in Xtreme Street going into Eliminations Round 1. We found him putting a softer tune up in the car since his high qualifying rank gives him the advantage in round 1.

I made it by the Baskin compound and talked to crew chief Bruce Maichle. He has his Pro Stock Firebird on the pole coming into Eliminations. Bruce was off slightly on the tune up yesterday due to a faulty O2 sensor. The car is now leaned out and should be able to top his number six qualifying time of a 8.769 @ 156.05. The camaro has had some upgrades including a three speed and chassis configuration change.

It just started raining again for 30 seconds, but a 30 second down pour. So again we are down. We have not made it through our final qualifying classes yet.

About the only news so far from the NMCA side was James Robbins jumping from third place to first in Super Street with a 6.915 @ 202.82. I believe this is the most cars in the sixes in Super Street history with four.

Super Street and Pro Street were the only classes that ran qualifying round three due to the rain we have had all day. Qualifying stayed pretty quiet other then Steve Miller going out the back of the track. The truck wasn't damaged too bad. The front end was banged up a little. Another damaged part that was interesting was the brake piston that welded itself to the brake pad mounting plate from getting on the brakes so hard.
