Welcome to Street Legal TV's coverage of the Orlando World Street Nationals. We'll be bringing you updated information, photos, rumors and news through the entire weekend - and it's going to be a blast. Wade and I are here Friday morning and getting ready for the long weekend of racing action. First round is set to start in five minutes. We'll be bringing it to you hot and fresh.
So far during the first round of Super Pro Street qualifying, few cars have made clean passes. The track is a little "iffy" as it is so fresh.
Called to the staging lanes
Here are a few burn out and launch shots. Most of the guys are getting tire shake about 60' out.
Rob Reese
Deland Harris ran a 7.61
Annette Summer
Steve King made the first clean pass of 6.65 @ 217.77
It has been hard for the racers to get traction, and there have been a few delays already. Greg Cason ended up in the sand box down track after running a 6.79 @ 202 mph but is alright, and a few cars have broken and strewn debris over the track.
Charlie Sikes blew a head gasket in his 62 Impala and had to do some welding repairs on the cylinder head. The Sikes crew hails from Pulaski Wisconson and the Impala is the fastest Impala in the country. Charlie debuted the all steel car in 2004 and it is one of the few old school Pro Street left still racing today.
Wayne Roberts banged a blower today in his Kansas based 1963 Super Pro Street Corvette around the 300 ft mark after driving through some tire shake. Some fire came inside the car and Wayne has some burns around his face but he is generally OK. They are not currently qualified but the car was on a nice pass with a 1.05 60’ before it let go. Wayne has attended the World Street Nationals since 1999.
Benito Soto brought his 69 Camaro all the way from St. Croix Virgin Islands to participate in the race this weekend. They burnt a piston in the second qualifying session and are replacing it tonight to make it ready for Saturday qualifying.
Gary Naughton and Kenny Doak sit in third and fourth spot respectively after Friday qualifying. Kenny owns both cars and the blower popped on the green car damaging the intake manifold which required them to drill and tap the intake so they could bolt it together to race this weekend. Kenny is looking to set a new Heavy Street record this weekend which is currently 7.19. Gary is the 2008 track champion of heavy street at Cecil County DragStrip and the shop foreman at Vanishing Point Race Cars.
Paul Major made the race this weekend after having a fire at the LSX shootout in Memphis caused by trans fluid getting on the headers after the dip stick blew out. They fired the car up on Sunday and ran it on the dyno to make sure everything was ok before heading down to Florida.
Take note of the stock dash still in the car.
Conrad Scarry burned a head gasket and piston this afternoon. They just finished buttoning everything up at 10:30 Friday night. Conrad wan the 08 10.5 championship in FFW and NMRA Crew chief Randy Auwarter also won crew chief of the year in the Fun Ford series.
Tony Puglesi broke a rear end housing during first round after some tire shake but they were able to repair it to make the next round.
Hank Hill is helping Pedro Apolito and the crew adjust the El General Super Pro Street car owned and driven by Jose Morel this weekend. Look for them to step it up a bit Saturday.
Mike “The Hit Man” Hill broke a lot of stuff and they were working hard to make it right.
Frank Meshaw and Peg Fratena make some adjustmensts to the twin turbo outlaw 10.5 Firebird.
You know Friday was Halloween so I just have to post some pics of the costumes people were wearing at the track.
Look !! It’s Woody the Induction Solutions mascot ready for some treats.
