Trick Flow 351 Cleveland Twisted Wedge Head

Trick Flow has released a new, 351 Cleveland Twisted Wedge head that claims to combine the low end torque of a 2-valve with the high end horsepower of a 4-valve. These aluminum heads come CNC bowl and chamber blended, with as cast intake and exhaust ports.

The heads flow 280 CFM at .500 with a 2.080” intake valve and 1.600” exhaust valve. The exhaust port is raised to help increase flow but still maintains the stock header location. There are two spring applications, depending on the use of a hydraulic flat tappet or solid roller lifter. Additionally, there are provisions for Windsor block mounting. These heads are for mid-level performance and will support up to 550 horsepower. Trick Flow recommends the use of stud mount roller rockers on these heads.

Outlaw Ladder Bar by Chassis Engineering

Chassis Engineering has a ladder bar that features a 4-link bracket with multiple point adjustability. The points allow you to change the leverage of the bar to help tune to the track, by providing more preload; lengthen the top pinion angle/preload bar to push the tires into the track when extra traction is needed.

This is a standard length ladder bar that is constructed purely of chromoly with 1 3/8” diameter tubing and laser cut brackets. Chassis Engineering designed this ladder bar to be used on any car, though high horsepower and weighted vehicles will benefit the most from this addition.

Speed Max Cool Can for Fuel Cooling

Back in the days of old, drag racers used a coffee can with coiled tubing inside and topped it off with some ice to help decrease the temperature of the fuel before it enters the engine. The concept is simple; a single billet aluminum cylinder houses over nine feet of tubing that is coiled around inside the cylinder, with a large opening hole for ice. The tubing size varies depending on the use of 6 to 10 AN lines and is pressure tested to 200 PSI.

There is just enough space inside to insert a frozen, 12-ounce can of your favorite beverage for hours of fuel cooling . When you’re done, a shut off valve on the bottom of the cylinder can be opened to expel the wasted water.

Ford Racing is Back to Supporting Pro Stock

What you see below isn’t the actual Pro Stock body; it is a mock up of what the 2010 Mustang Pro Stock body looks like. This mock up was built on a Harry Glass body modified by Jerry Hass to add the 2010 lighting. But the reality is, Ford is in the midst of wind tunnel testing for their Pro Stock bodies. The idea is to increase the “slickness” of the bodies through extensive wind tunnel testing. Jim Cunningham and Erica Enders will be the first team to get a body when they are released and it is rumored that Billy Glidden has been inquiring on what it takes to get one of these bodies on his GTO Pro Stock chassis.

For the engine side of things, Ford will be developing a CGI based 500 cubic inch block with a Hemi/Wedge style head. We don’t have any pictures yet because there aren’t any public pieces yet. The bodies will come first and we want to get across that Ford is not sponsoring anyone, merely creating the parts for sale.

Dart’s new SHP Chevy Short Blocks and Top End Kits

Dart released their new budget block named the SHP earlier this year. It combines their race block technology in a lighter, budget iron casting. To compliment the SHP blocks, Dart offers the SHP line in a 372 and 400 cubic inch short block. The internals come as a cast/I Beam combination and is also offered in a upgraded Forged/H Beam setup.

To compliment the SHP short blocks, Dart offers their top end kits; compression ratio is determined through the combustion chamber selection on the heads. On the 400 cubic inch, 72 CC will yield 10:1, on the 64 CC head you will see 10.7:1 and the 49 CC is perfect for a dirt car combination at a 13:1 compression ratio. While offered in iron or aluminum, the 180-200 CC top end kits come with a dual plane intake manifold and 215 CC and up are offered in a single plane. The rest of the top end kit comes with valve covers, gaskets, and fasteners. Dart has recorded 525 horsepower on their standard 400 cubic inch short block with a moderate cam and 64 CC head.

Patriot Performance Engine Packages

Engine building is a task that many find too much to handle. That’s no problem, Patriot Performance offers many different complete engines that start at 350 hp and go all the way to 800 hp in small block Ford or small/big bloc Chevy. Built on a foundation of Scat internals, Patriot chose MSD ignition to provide spark and Edelbrock intakes to provide the air for their engine offerings. Complete with aluminum heads and water pumps, they feature the same valvetrain Patriot is known for, just in a preassembled package that even comes with a one year warranty. These engines do not come tuned but Patriot does offer the option to have your engine dyno tuned by them for the maximum performance.

www.patriot-performance.com is the place to find out more info on these engine offerings.

J.W. Performance Go-Rilla and 4L60E Converters

I’m looking at the picture of a large gorilla as he stands over a high horsepower torque converter -- no I haven’t lost my mind, J.W. Performance has ‘unleashed the beast’ this year at PRI with their new torque converter. The Go-Rilla converter is a new line of converters designed for those pushing horsepower numbers well into the four digit area; as these converters are designed to take power into the 3,000 hp range. Designed to fit the popular Turbo 400 and Powerglide transmissions, this converter can handle the power and with a name like Go-Rilla could you really argue?

Also being shown in the J.W. Performance booth was their new 4L60E Torque Converter. This converter is built in house at J.W. in a ten-inch model that works well for the strip and the street. This is because of the available 3400 rpm stall, Torrington bearings, furnaced brazed fins and a chrome moly neck cap off this converter.

Cloyes' Sprocket and Chain Sets For LS and Modular Engines

No matter what LS Engine you have lurking under your hood Cloyes Performance Products offers their Hex-A-Just and Original True Roller Sets for some of GM’s most popular LS engines. Now there is one engine to add to the list with the release of their all new LS7 kit. Heat treated and made from Billet Steel these sprockets are hand matched at Cloyes’ Factory for accuracy, and is infinitely adjustable. That's because the design that is used is not limited by the keyways that are usually a common design feature that would get in the way. You can get the LS1, LS2, and LS3 in both single and double roller sets, but if you have an LS7 there is only a single roller set available. These are designed to perform, as the chains in all of the single roller sets are capable of 600+ hp according to Cloyes.

If you are looking to increase the horsepower and torque of your 4.6L SOHC while improving cam timing balance then Cloyes claims they have the answer you have been looking for. Their new billet steel Hex-A-Just Timing Kits allow you to adjust for any custom cam timing that you can think of to maximize your engine’s power numbers. The kit comes in three different combos to fit exactly what you need. The Sprocket Combo includes the two adjustable cam sprockets as well as the hex tool to make your adjustments. The Short Kit come with everything the Sprocket Combo has as well as a steel crank sprocket and two fine finish chains. Finally the Full all the timing components you need to upgrade your Modular Motor. Check out the parts list for the full kit below:
  • Two adjustable cam sprockets
  • Steel crank sprocket
  • Two fine finish chains

Hughes Performance High End Drag Racing Transmission

One of the snazziest looking transmissions we saw was the brightly powder coated Prowerglide from Hughes Performance. With a 1.80 gear ratio along with a 1.69 option and a 1.57 on the way, this transmission features a large input shaft that is offered in a 1 1/4 and 1 1/8 size respectably with a 400 output shaft. This thing is built like a tank and is made to handle 3000 hp and beyond. This is thanks to it planetary gears as well as its one-sided friction clutch. The neatest part is the ability to customize your transmission with different powder coating options. While the official list of colors hasn’t been released yet, you can expect many popular colors and maybe even a few odd ones if we all beg Hughes enough.

Be sure to check out www.hughesperformance.com for more info.

Edelbrock LSR induction and Musi Big Block Power

LSR Victor Junior Intake Manifold

Tired of the stock style intake manifolds for LS engines and just want something more conventional? Edelbrock has released an LSR intake manifold that will work with carbureted or fuel injected combinations on your late-model LS power plant. This cast aluminum intake manifold is a bolt and go application, as it even retains the factory intake runner seals.

Musi Monster 632 Cubic Inch Big Block Chevy

This isn’t a new crate motor from Edelbrock, rather than a testament that Edelbrock parts do make power. The engine features an Edelbrock top end; including Big Victor CNC ported 18-degree heads. Pro Port offers a CNC program for these big block heads. Induction is fed through an Edelbrock intake manifold and assisted by an Edelbrock direct port nitrous kit. Naturally aspirated the engine made 1209 horsepower and 939 ft/lb, while on nitrous the engine made 1666 horsepower and 1408 ft/lb.
