Every now and then we like to have our office guys get out there and show what they are made of. While Kevin spends most of this days trouble shooting email or server problems, on this day he would only have to worry about planting his right foot to the floor.
When we last left Project Magnum R/T we had just installed an
AFE Racing intake and tuned the HEMI using a
Diablosport Predator. Even though we gained almost 40 hp. Since then, we added a
Vortech Supercharger to the equation and now are pushing around 380 rear wheel horsepower. With all that power the question of the day was could Kevin keep the power to the pavement.
This first run didn’t go that well. Skidding the tires the whole way down Kevin ran a 11.64 at 73.62 MPH in the 1/8 mile. This actually corrects to a 18.0 in the 1/4. With track conditions not at their prime everyone had to battle in the heat. The lack of traction, a rookie driver, and 100 degree heat all teamed up to make this is a difficult day of testing. After dropping tire pressure to around 24 psi he got the tires to hook up all the way down the track. But after 3 runs in under an hour, his car was hot, and the 108 degree temperature didn't help things.
After letting it cool down for a while, letting it slip down to 170 degrees, Kevin ran a 8.92 at 81.02 MPH on the eighth mile, which corrects to a 13.82 at 101.2 mph. Nothing to write home about, but the pass was made in 105 degree temperatures.
All being said, that was over three tenths faster than his last time out to the track in 60-degree air. Under better conditions Kevin would have easy be able to knock off another two-three tenths. That car has an easy 13.20 in for being a big wagon.
Next time we head to the track Kevin says that he is going to bring an ice pack to try and help keep the blower a tad bit cooler to see if he can get some better times in the “Limo.” I’m sure the Kooks headers going on the car soon will be the real secret.
