Redneck Sandblasting

Sometimes if ya want something done right, you have to do it yourself. That was the setting for my work today in the shop. After unsuccessfully taking the subframe out of Project Swinger to two different places to be sandblasted we decided to do it ourselves. And by ourselves I’m referring to me. So today I sat out with our new sandblaster we just bought to show the big boys how it is done. The first thing I needed was a place to blast. Somewhere safe and enclosed so that it would keep all the media inside of it to be reused.

The problem was there was no such place in our shop. So BJ came up with the idea to use the car itself as a blasting booth. Armed with four black trash bags and a roll of duck tape I set out to seal the Nova’s interior off from the rest of the world.

After a few stumbles and some sticky situations (talking about the tape here) I blocked off most of the holes in the old body. With the tape and bags in place I was off to the blasting. Things started off great with the forty years of road grime and oil flying right off. The blaster itself worked great as well.

What made me shut down the operation was the bags blowing off the Nova and letting sand fly out and all over the shop. With James’ car sitting inches away, the little voice in my head told me that he did not want his ’08 Vette sandblasted on one side. So tomorrow I should be reevaluating my blasting booth and then getting back into the sandstorm.

You make me proud.

Tommy boy, great job.

You just might make a good redneck after all. I had my doubts with the pants hanging off the ass and the ball cap tilted to the side, but you are coming along. Last weekend at the dirt track wiped away all those months of listening to Maroon 5. Are you ready for some Hank Jr. now?

Better get ready cause next time we go dirt track racing.......all my rowdy friends are planning on coming out.
