Tom Heatley may not be a household name, but he is one guy that has gained plenty of exposure with his outlaw drag radial Camaro. His build started out at one chassis shop but wound up in the hands of Dennis and DMC Racing for the finishing touches. Through all the headaches Tom maintained a positive outlook for the finishing of his car and heading to the track.

Well that special day is nearing fast as the final preparations are being made along with some dyno tuning to get a good baseline tune for the twin turbocharged combination. The 477 cubic inch big block Chevrolet is force fed through a pair of 88mm turbochargers that were mounted in the rear of the car in a similar style as to what Paul Major runs on his Corvette.
DMC fully prepared the chassis to a 25.2 specification and along the way the original builder of the car, Jamie Miller, came in and started working on the car once again under the watchful eye of Dennis. It was great to see Jamie dignify himself and his reputation by going the extra mile to make Tom’s Camaro come together.
Most recently Tom headed to the dyno under the controls of tuning guru Job Spetter Jr. of Turbo People. They worked at getting a baseline for their tuning efforts and a good idea of how much horsepower it would make. The first pull tested the capabilities of the wastegate springs and they were making a minimal 8lbs of boost and made 906 horsepower at the rear wheels. Then Job started to push the combination a bit more with 14lbs of boost which led to 1122 rear wheel horsepower. They did have a small mishap with a rocker arm and stud but that will all be fixed soon. Look out NMCA True Street because this monster is coming for you.
