Steve Matusek had his chutes get caught up in the wheelie bars and they did not bloom. The front end of the car is pretty messed up. The most important thing is Steve is ok just a little sore. We hope they are able to get the car fixed and make it back out soon.
Timing issues cost the World Challenge staff a lot of time today. The left lane malfunctioned several times before they shut it down. The whole Christmas tree was replaced. They even had the company that made the system on the phone to get it fixed. This coupled with several track incidents caused them to be running behind the schedule.
John Urist tops the qualifying sheets with his last pass of the day. John had run 7.51 and 7.50 in the earlier qualifying passes. On his last shot he out ran Halfacre’s 7.42 @ 198 with a 7.41 @ 189.
In the final round of qualifying Jim Brown’s Outlaw 10.5w Mustang did its burnout. But something went wrong and the throttle appeared to stick wide open. Jim was quick to put the car in neutral and shut off all the switches, but it did not stop the car from bouncing off the two-step. The car sat there for what seemed like forever bouncing off the rev-limiter.
Jarod Wenrick has had his 68 Camaro flying lately and has picked up the pace every lap down the Gateway track. In the final round it appears that he has taken back the title of the fastest Procharged car from Mark Mike/Jeff Dickey Camaro with a pass of 6.29 @ 226. This was good for the number three qualifying position.
