Think you’re a highway star, and nobody’s gonna touch your car? You might want to think again! Spy shots of what looks to be a fleet of ’11 Dodge Chargers was snapped by a Detroit-area resident and recently uploaded to Jalopnik.com. The Charger Police Interceptor is available with either a V6, with the option of E-85 compatibility, or with the tire-smoldering 5.7 liter V8 HEMI.
Allpar.com states on their website that nationwide about 75% of the Charger squad cars are HEMI-equipped. It’s also said that the current police-spec cars have an enhanced performance-tuned suspension, improved brakes for better stopping power and durability, and now better gas mileage with the HEMI engine using “Interactive Deceleration Fuel Shutoff.”
If you see one of these in your rear view mirror, you might want to think twice about doing anything brash. The new Charger Interceptors have all sorts of goodies to help catch the bad guys, and all while staying safe and comfortable.
Amenities include a two mode Electronic Stability Control, night-vision interior lighting, and a Police Interface Module, which Dodge claims is the only car in its class to offer it as standard equipment.
The interior also sports a number of nifty things like 6-way powered “police-duty” seats, key-less entry, steering wheel mounted audio controls, UConnect voice command, two power outlets, and dual-zone air conditioning. Dodge has also improved the Charger’s visibility by making the pillars thinner, lowering the rear view mirror, and by moving the top of the windshield back by about 3-1/2 inches.
It really shouldn’t come as a shock to start seeing more of the Charger Police Interceptors popping everywhere as officers nationwide opt for the luxury-muscle squad car of the future.
