On May 16th GM pulled back the curtain on the long-awaited 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, a car that looks as familiar as an old friend, albeit one that’s been following a rigorous diet and workout routine for the past few years. Riding on the new Alpha platform and fitted with the Corvette’s 455 horsepower LT1 V8, GM has made it the best Camaro yet thanks to features like a dual-mode exhaust system and a body optimized for aerodynamics through 350 hours of wind tunnel testing.
That’s only a few of the salivating details that have us, and many other Americans, hovering over their keyboards and cellphones, waiting to place an order. Thanks to CamaroNews, we now know the date when GM will finally take our money; August 13th, 2015. That’s just three weeks away, so make sure you tell your boss you’re taking the day off if you want to be one of the first sixth-gens off the line. Keep in mind though, this is only for the Camaro Coupe; GM hasn’t decided on a date for Camaro Convertible orders yet.
The info comes via a document sent to CamaroNews that appears to indicate that order banks for the 2016 Camaro will open on August 13th, with production possibly beginning a little more than a week later on the 22nd. The document also lines up with already-confirmed ordering dates for other 2016 model year cars like the 2016 Chevy Volt, which opened up for orders from California customers on May 28th. That’s the same day quoted on the CamaroSix document, lending a lot of credence to the still not-confirmed-by-GM date. We don’t have long to verify the accuracy of this rumor thankfully.
We’re almost there Camaro fans. We’re almost there.
