The Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcats dominated news cycles for the past year, with orders for the 707 horsepower HEMI V8-powered vehicles soaring past expectations. Chrysler even had to cancel some orders for the first round of Hellcats as the new model year came out before they had caught up with all their backorders. It’s been a resounding success, one that Chrysler wants to keep some momentum behind.

At the North American International Auto Show, FCA announced that the 2016 Hellcat models would be available with an exclusive dual-stripe setup to further set them apart from the crowd. The automaker is also extending the availability for its Plum Crazy paint option for another month. And with the way things are going, this could be your last shot at buying a brand new purple muscle car.

What do we mean by that? Well it’s something of an open-secret that Chrysler is planning to cull the Challenger coupe, replacing it with the smaller Barracuda sometime around 2017 or 2018. The Charger may also be put out to pasture, at least as a rear-drive sedan. Neither model has much time left, and the Hellcat halo cars are only further evidence that this may very well be the last hurrah for the Charger and Challenger.

While we don’t want to say that enthusiasm has waned for the 707 horsepower muscle car twins, the natural cycle of the auto industry means that some newcomer will inevitably snatch away the spotlight that has shone so brightly on the Hellcats. Hence the release of these exclusive body-length racing stripes, which include a “carbon fiber pattern” for an additional $995 over the Hellcat’s MSRP.

Then you’ve got the Plum Crazy paint option, which has proven so popular that FCA extended ordering until the end of January. The option was slated to disappear at the end of 2015, but you’ve got a few more weeks to get your order in. There’s no guarantee it’ll be back for this generation of Dodge performance cars, though we doubt this is the end for the famous hue.
