For cheap thrills, it’s hard to beat the 4th gen F-body platform. But even good clean wholesome Camaro fun wasn’t enough for 37-year-old Jessica Belle Lusk and her passenger, 26-year-old Kevin Corey Smith. The thrill-seeking pair were caught on video very early on Mothers’ Day morning using the aforementioned Chevy (which turned out to be borrowed from one of Lusk’s relatives) to break into the Austin Antique Mall.
After moving a potted plant out of the way, the pair used the car as a battering ram to gain access to the business, where Smith then allegedly made off with rings and bracelets, but not without leaving a considerable amount of evidence behind in the form of his own blood. They followed up with a second antique store robbery just a few miles away.
When the local pawn shops opened on Mother’s Day, a third accomplice then proceeded to unload their ill-gotten gains, and it was a pretty simple job for Austin police to connect the dots – between the video of the break-in, the physical evidence left behind at the scene, and the surveillance video of Smith casing both shops in the days prior to the robberies, it wasn’t hard to wrap up a solid case against the trio of would-be supercriminals.
Lusk and Smith face felony burglary charges, while the third accomplice was charged with was charged with making false statements to obtain credit in connection with fencing the stolen goods to the pawn shops.
