Here at powerTV, we’ve observed a few different rodding trends that have started to repeat themselves enough to be called “popular.” From American muscle and rodding in Europe to Chevelles and Camaros going pro-touring, there is clearly nothing in our industry that ceases to amaze us.
But then there is one rodding trend in particular that has caused a little bit of an “itch” among our little gearhead family, and that of course means not only the powerTV “family,” but the motoring community as a whole. It’s a hot rod trend that garners for itself a surprising amount of positive feedback, and it’s that of building ground-up, even pro-street sometimes, station wagons.
We chose to write about Rick and Bonnie Billuni’s full-custom, ’65 Chevelle wagon, both because the wagon wears an amazing coat of paint and because it seemed funny as hell, at the time that we had found the car, to introduce the car as a candidate for future official company car. This, of course, was all in good fun!
But what is definitely not a joke is the kind of conversion that has been executed on the Billuni’s amazing ‘Velle wagon. First, proud owners Rick and Bonnie decided that they would have the old wagon done right from the very first step, so they took the Chevelle over to Hot Rods & Custom Stuff, where they made their promise to the Billunis that they would soon own an award-winning, custom rod wagon.
As expected, the promise was fulfilled. Hot Rods & Custom Stuff set Rick and Bonnie up with a Hilborn-injected, Chevy 502 putting out 502bhp with 560 foot-pounds of torque, chasing a Tremec 5-speed. The wagon also features a custom aluminum driveshaft with a Ford, 9-inch rear end.
The custom chassis of the Billuni’s tangerine wagon is courtesy of The Roadster Shop, and this modern setup is complimented by Wilwood, four-wheel disc brakes to make the car stop as well as it drives.
So far, the Billuni’s Chevelle wagon has gained a fan base, as it has already won acclaim at the Grand National’s Roadster show, and the Billunis plan on entering the car in many shows and venues to come.
