Sometimes we don’t think we can ever have too many cars, and some gear heads will buy a house with a bigger garage just to accommodate their cars. Unless you’re a used car salesman, it’s very hard to give up a car that you have spent hours and hours working on, and you’ll find every excuse you can to keep it.
But every once in a while, someone actually does feel they have too many toys and decides to get rid of one of them. So being a gear head, what do you do? Do you convince them to keep it, or do you help them sell it? But if that person is your dad, you do the only thing you can do.
We found this very clean ’73 Firebird over at Pro-Touring.com, and Mike Bereda says that when his dad, Jack, needed to make room for one of his new toys this Firebird was on the chopping block. Mike knew what he had to do, and bought the car from his dad. It was a good decision.
Jack bought the Firebird from a seller in San Bernardino, CA., in 2009 and Mike had inspected it and had it shipped out to Texas where his dad lives. Jack spent about two years restoring the Firebird, painting it Valencia Gold, and did an outstanding job on it. We can’t blame Mike for wanting to keep this one in the family, it’s too beautiful to let go.
Mike has since added a Ridetech coilover kit, Strongarms, a 4-link suspension and front Musclebar. He already got sub-frame connectors, G-braces and solid body bushings to stiffen up the frame, as well as a set of 540 HRE wheels that will complete that Pro-Touring look. KORE3 brakes front and rear will help bring the car to a stop.
Mike says the Firebird will be mostly for street, but since he’s not very far from Willow Springs Raceway, he plans to take it to the track occasionally. Even though the car looks great with the HRE’s, it’s a hard choice between those and the stock steelies. Either way, it does the F-body justice as you can tell by the pictures.
