For most of us, thieves are the lowest. For a gearhead, a car thief is even lower than that. We work hard to get the car we want, and we share that reward with all of our gearhead friends, both in person and online.
So when we heard about a car that was stolen – not from the car owner but from the dealership where the car was being repaired – it isn’t an easy feeling. Thieves are sneaky, tricky, and conniving, and to steal a vehicle when the owner is less than vulnerable is hard to take.
Jeff Scott bought his Hellcat last December and had taken it to Benchmark Dodge, his local dealership in Birmingham, Alabama, for service work on Monday. He got the sad news this morning that his red 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was no longer on the premises. The dealership says they still have his keys, so that makes it a bit suspicious since the Hellcat has a pretty solid security system.
It appears that the car was stolen from the dealership service lot, unfortunately there were no surveillance cameras. They are on the lookout for the car in the Birmingham and surrounding areas. The car is Redline Red with a black interior and the matte black wheels, and only has about 6,000 miles on it. It carries an Alabama license plate: DAB 704, and the last of the VIN is H713946. The car is going to be a standout wherever it goes, and it’s safe to say that there are likely few red Hellcat Challengers in the area.
If you have any information on the vehicle or suspect, you’re asked to contact local authorities at the Irondale Police Department: 205/956-5990. He not only shows the car at local car shows, but he drives it as shown in the picture below from the local race track. Let’s get the word out and share this bad news and help Jeff get his car back.
