Another Cars & Coffee Shutdown: Sometimes We Are Our Own Worst Enemy

cnc4It has been brought to our attention that the well-known Cars and Coffee Irvine will be shut down after the December 20th date. The reason for this shut down is due to noise pollution – too many gearheads and enthusiasts who couldn’t contain themselves and had to rev their engines and do burnouts, despite the warnings and requests.

cnc3These events have always been a great way for many of us to see cars on the road, and up close and personal, that we rarely ever get to see. From the rarest of exotics to the bad ass musclecars, they’ve all been there in a mix of east meets west and everything in between. This particular venue has seen celebrities like Jay Leno, Tim Allen, and many others, who have brought out unique and high-dollar automobiles for the rest of us to enjoy.

Despite continued requests by the Cars and Coffee organizers to keep the revs down and to abstain from burnouts, many enthusiasts simply didn’t comply, and as a result they are being ordered to vacate the venue. The event currently takes place in the parking lots adjacent to the buildings occupied by Ford, Mazda, and Taco Bell, with one building opened up for visitors to utilize the facilities – a much nicer option than the big blue alternative.

cnc5Perhaps it was the peer pressure from those standing at the exit that wanted to see and hear these cars getting on it, or the fan clubs that urged participants to do a burnout, but not resisting those urges to show off has ultimately become too much for the local residents.

According to some reports, a local hotel and an apartment complex generated some complaints, and despite the occasional police presence there have still been some enthusiasts who ultimately have become their own worst enemy, and now Cars and Coffee Irvine must find another location.

The sad thing is that this happens all too often, and most of the time we do it to ourselves. We think, “just this one time” and forget that just about everyone else thinks the same thing; and before you know it another event gets shut down.

There's always an eclectic mix of cars to see, from Arial Atoms to Vipers, but if we keep ignoring the rules these events are going to slowly disappear on us until there are none left.

We’ve seen this at so many events over the years that we wonder why we can’t control our inhibitions and just chill. This isn’t the first, and it won’t be the last, but it’s sad that we take these events for granted and forget to behave so the we can continue to partake in them. Sadly, we are the ones who usually ruin it for ourselves and everyone else when we think we’re the exception to the rule just that one time.

So please keep it in mind, everyone, if you’re at a car event, whether it’s a cruise night or a Cars and Coffee, try to respect the rules so that others in the surrounding area who don’t share your enthusiasm will have nothing to complain about. If you must make noise, do it somewhere else – because these events are for all of us gearheads and it’s a shame to see yet another one shut down.
