Barn Find: Man Buys Pontiac Firebird 400 With a Few Camaro Touches

Bruce fell in love with this 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 after seeing it featured on Barnfinds.com. The car was listed for sale by Marcus in Caldwell, Idaho, who was looking to get $8,500.00. Excited with money to burn, Bruce gave Marcus a call, a deal was struck and Bruce invited Barnfinds to cover the purchase (the first they have ever covered in person). The Firebird had been parked for 21 years, including being parked for 13 years before Marcus inherited it and parked for another eight under his care. He realized he was never going to restore it, so he decided to sell it. Eight years ago the 400 still ran but its fires haven’t been lit since.

The Firebird is mostly original, though a few personal touches have been added over the years. These include a Camaro spoiler, tach and dark blue Chevy paint. The Pontiac 400 powering the car is the same piece of engineering that made the Pontiac GTO a legend at stop lights and on the strip. With a 10.75:1 compression ratio this produces 325 horses and 410 foot pounds of torque allowing the Firebird to slingshot to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds. Due to the young crowd buying these cars, Pontiac wanted to keep the speeds down, so they installed a device on the engine prevent it from going to full throttle. According to 1967Firebird400.com the device can be removed giving 25 horsepower back to the car.

Bruce has a ways to go before this bird is soaring through the air again. Overall the car is in good condition but there are a few patches of Bondo as well as a few areas of rust. Hopefully the 400 only needs an oil/ignition change or at most a basic rebuild to run once again. Barnfinds will be keeping with progress updates of the Pontiac, so expect to see more of this car.
