The Ford Galaxie of the 1960s was a big boat of a car, one of the largest Ford vehicles you could buy. As such it could be had with a wide variety of big-block V8 engines, though the most common motors seems to have been the rugged 390 V8. Though Ford has no plans to revive the Galaxie name, there are still plenty of these classic cars hiding in barns all across America.
CarsInBarns was tipped off to this particular 1967 Ford Galaxie, which appears to have spent at least a couple of decades stored away in a garage somewhere. The car reportedly belonged to an elderly gentleman who eventually passed away. Sometimes that is the only way the owner will part with their classic car.
While the details are few, we would not be surprised if the elderly gentleman was the original owner. Sometimes people get so attached to cars that they cannot part with them, even when it is obvious that they have no intention of restoring it. At least in this case the Galaxie was stored in away in a garage, and appears to have survived mostly intact.
The tipster was the man who ended up buying the Galaxie from the owner’s nephew, and he claims to have gotten the car started and sold in short order. While the Galaxie looks to have some pretty bad rust on the rear end, the paint is probably original, adding a special sort of value as a “survivor” car. If you ask us, this car should be left as-is. You can’t rush a natural patina like that.
