BREAKING NEWS: Retro-Style 2017 Gran Torino Concept Pictures Leaked

grantorinoengineOne of our sharp readers was able to capture some images that were somehow leaked out on Facebook this morning. It appears that a now former disgruntled employee grabbed some images and posted them to his account with some words about being wrongfully terminated. Whatever that drama was about, we just had to share what we found because this is exciting news!

gran-torino_f_007It now appears that the Facebook account was deactivated, for obvious reasons. Ford seemed to act quickly in getting this post removed, but not quick enough that our loyal reader was able to share the images with us.

From what we can tell, this retro-styled 2017 Gran Torino is a throwback to the original styling of the 1970s. And it’s packing a mighty punch under the long hood with a supercharged 5.0 Coyote, backed by possibly a Tremec transmission.

The images include an engine bay shot that looks to be a Shelby Mustang powerplant with “GRAN TORINO” valve covers, and you can’t miss the blower. The modern brakes and wheels suggest that the Gran Torino might have some performance modifications to the chassis and suspension, with wide tires front and rear.

We like the looks of this Gran Torino concept, which appears to be a throw back to the original body lines. We say build it Ford, we want it. But by production time, the supercharged Coyote could be replaced with the Voodoo flat plane V8.

Rumor has it that this might be unveiled at SEMA this year in the Ford booth. The Gran Torino seems to be based on the same vehicle used in the 2008 movie Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood, albeit on a slightly smaller Mustang platform. As concept cars go, this one could just be a winner by the time it reaches showrooms.

As always, we do our best to bring you the latest concepts like this Gran Torino from Ford, even if it is April Fools Day. You might be mad at us after reading this last paragraph, but then, if you’re sharp on Ford concepts, you just might have recognized this as the 1970 Milano Mustang concept, with just a few tweaks to try to fool you. Still, they should build it shouldn’t they? We think so!
