When The Fast and the Furious first hit movie theaters in 2001, Vin Diesel and his crew of high-octane thieves were stealing “high end” televisions with built-in VCRs. Seriously, that’s how old that movie is, and while VCRs are now considered “ancient” technology, some concepts that The Fast and the Furious brought to the mainstream have remained timelessly annoying. Worse, they’ve spread from the “poser” crowd into the legitimate automotive enthusiast space, which is why we have this next video to (sadly) share with you.
Originally shared on the r/cars subreddit, this 50-second video stars a hapless new Camaro SS owner who found a mysterious switch inside his slightly-used Chevy sports car. What that switch does, well, you can see for yourself.
Yup, that’s a lit-up hood you’ve got there ala Knightrider, and admittedly, it’s not…awful. Heck, for a cheap mod, it’s actually kinda cool we guess, if you’re into that sort of thing. We prefer it to uselessly oversized rims and obnoxious exhaust tips to be sure…but if that’s where this video ended, we wouldn’t bother sharing it with you.
Because then our new Camaro owner found a remote control in his car, and upon playing with it he discovered his car came with a fad we all hoped had quietly gone away, streetglow. Yet here we are in 2015, and streetglow still lives on beneath this otherwise gorgeous Camaro SS. Trust us when we say this was most definitely not a factory option for the 2014 model year, nor was it something any of us expected. To each their own and all that…but there’s a reason things like JNCO jeans and wallet chains went out of style.
That “Yup” at the end really says it all.
