As an industry leader, Heidts Hot Rod & Muscle Car Parts has been designing and manufacturing suspension components and full setups for 25 years. That’s why when PureVision Design was looking for the perfect suspension system for their ‘70 Mustang Halo project car, they turned to Heidts.
Unfortunately, Heidts didn’t have an independent suspension system for the early Mustangs at the time. But that didn’t deter PureVision from taking Heidts’ trusted Camaro suspension systems and modifying it to fit their needs. Check out how PureVision fitted the early Camaro suspension system from Heidts to their ‘70 Mustang in the video above.
Although Heidts was working on creating a high performance IRS system for first-generation Mustangs at the time, the owner of PureVision, Steve Strope didn’t want to wait to get started on the suspension for their ‘70 Mustang Halo car. So he purchased Heidts’ PRO-G Independent Rear Suspension system created for the first and second-generation Camaro and started modifying.
Although PureVision had to create their own mounts and attachment points on the Mustang’s chassis, they were able to use almost all of the components that came with the Heidts IRS setup. With a 800hp rating and heavy duty CV joints, the system was perfect for the Halo build, which was set up for a 800hp Jon Kaase Boss engine.
The Heidts suspension also matted nicely to the Mustang’s Currie Enterprises Nodular Lightweight 9-inch 3rd member. With JRI coilovers, the PureVision Mustang is definitely on track for some serious autocross course carving.
Heidts has since released their PRO-G Independent Rear Suspension for the 1964 ½ to 1970 Mustang platform. So, if you have an early first-gen Mustang in need of a complete rear suspension, be sure to check out what Heidts has to offer.
