General Motors has made a roaring comeback, especially here in America. A large part of its newfound sales success comes from the Chevrolet brand, which GM has sought to grow both here in America and abroad in both Europe and Asia. Things are definitely looking up for the Bowtie brand.
MLive.com reports that for the eighth-consecutive quarter, the Chevrolet brand has saw increased sales all across the world. Sales were led by the American market but growing in other countries as well.
The best-selling Chevrolet remains the Cruze compact, which has sold over 550,000 units in the first three-quarters of 2012. The Chevy brand as a whole grew 3.1% worldwide compared to the third quarter of 2011, moving a record 1.25 million units. Chevy grew in all five of its best-selling countries; the U.S., China, Brazil, Russia, and Mexico.
In the U.S. alone, GM sold 458,721 vehicles, a 2.1% increase over last year. In Brazil, GM sold almost 189,000 vehicle, and over 152,000 vehicles in China. Unfortunately, GM as a whole is being held back by poor performance in Europe, and in particular the Opel brand. Many analysts expect GM to try and dump or close Opel sooner rather than later, and it will only help GM’s bottom line.
For now though, it is up to the Chevy brand to pick up the slack…as usual.
