As Americans, we generally expect nothing less than the best, especially when it comes to our cars. Anything other than the latest and greatest just isn’t good enough for many people, and for automakers this can be a problem. If they reveal a new car too soon, sales of the outgoing model may plunge due to anticipation. But release it too late, and competitors could get a marketing advantage over you.
Chrysler is introducing an interesting idea, a one-year lease for the 2014 Dodge Challenger and Charger with the option to switch into the refreshed 2015 model next year. It’s a proposal that hasn’t been tried before, but somebody is bound to take the bait.
The 2015 Charger and Challenger are receiving major updates for their New York Auto Show debut later this week, but buyers won’t be able to get behind the wheel for another year. To help avoid the lame duck sales period that follows the debut of a new model, and that model actually arriving at dealerships, Chrysler is offering a special one-year lease term.
The “Double-Up” program carries a $1,000 credit towards the lease of a new 2015 model after the end of the 12-month lease on the 2014 model expires. A new 36-month lease begins for the refreshed model, so you never have to go without a fresh Mopar in your life. Whether this program proves popular or not, we’ll have to wait and see…but it’s the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that Chrysler could use these days.
