[4]NHRA: Race Recap from Brainerd [2]. Ron Capps won his third race of the season on Sunday over a tire-smoking John Force to take the Funny Car points lead with one event remaining before the Countdown to the Championship. Capps was joined by Erica Enders, who scored her second straight victory in Pro Stock, this time driving from the No. 1 qualifying position to defeat points leader Allen Johnson in the final. [7]NMCA WEST: Same Day Coverage on Dragzine [8]. Longtime West coast hitter John Scialpi drove from the No. 1 qualifying position in Pro Street to capture the class crown at the NMCA West Coast Shootout at historic Auto Club Raceway at Pomona on Sunday, scoring a 4.05 to 4.20 defeat of Joe Lepone Jr. in the final. Al Jimenez downed the returning Rick Snavely in the True 10.5 final by a 4.88 to 4.97 count, while Kevin Young edged out Artis Houston in a spectacular Drag Radial final, 5.01 to 5.07, after nearly identical reaction times. [10]NHRA Division 1: Richard Bourke won in Top Alcohol Dragster over the weekend at the NHRA Northeast division meet at Maryland’s Cecil Count Dragway. Bourke edged out Dan Mercier in the final, 5.34 to 5.38. Todd Veney scored in a great Top Alcohol Funny car final with Mickey Ferro, 5.665 to 5.668, while Sal Biondo earned yet another Competition Eliminator divisional trophy with a break single after opponent Steve Szupka encountered trouble. [10]NHRA Division 6: Adam Bowdish scored the Competition Eliminator crown at the NHRA Northwest division meet at Pacific Raceways on Sunday, edging Mike Depalma in the final. Division 6 hitter Mark Faul won his second event in a row in Super Stock with a defeat of Sean Cour, and Kelly Thomas took Stock honors at his home track over fellow local racer Jody Lang. [13]IHRA Division 4: Todd Robinson took Top Dragster honors on Saturday at the IHRA Renegades Pro-Am at the Memphis International Raceway when opponent Jeremy Glidewell broke and slowed. Robinson was joined by Top Sportsman winner Scooter Hampton, who earned the automatic victory on Ricky Vedros’ foul start. On day two, Ricky Pennington beat Bobby Brannon on both ends of the race track for the Super Stock crown, while Jimmy Hidalgo Jr. used a better light to edge out Jeff Hefler in the Stock final.
